How to Clean Hardwood Floors
Curious about preserving the original beauty of your hardwood floors? With proper care and maintenance, you can increase the quality and longevity of each plank. Here are our tips on how to clean hardwood floors, plus an easy schedule to help you keep your hardwood floors looking their best for years to come.
The simplest way to protect your hardwood floors from scratches and surface damage is to give them a good once over every day. Sweep with either a broom or dust mop.
Some dirt, oil and grime can be missed during daily dusting. Weekly vacuuming with the proper hardwood floor attachment will help to clean up any debris that has been left behind. Never use the vacuums beater bar on your hardwoods.
Always clean up spills immediately using a soft cloth. Remember that hardwood floors do not like moisture.
Use a floor cleaner such as Bona. Bona can be found at most retail stores. A wax-based or petroleum-based product should never be used on your hardwood floors. Any excess liquid should be cleaned up right away to prevent buckling and cupping.
Never use water based cleaners on a wax floor. A broom or dust mop is really all you need. If you want to bring the luster up, simply buff with a soft cloth. Apply additional wax in heavy traffic areas as needed being extra careful not to over wax.
When cleaning, keep water to a minimum. Use a mild cleaner specifically designed for oiled floors such as Bona. Simply spray and wipe. Never use an all-purpose cleaner on your oiled flooring. Once or twice a year use Bona Oil Refresher for Oiled Floors to prolong the life and keep your floors looking great.
